The Problem With Your Old Website

Don’t let an outdated website limit your firm's potential. Partner with NOMOS Marketing and let us create a powerful online presence that drives results and grows your law firm.

September 9, 2024

Your website can be the first thing potential clients see. Their first impression. And it could be a deciding factor, because people do judge a book by its cover.

For instance, if the outside of a hotel looks “fine”, you might drive past it to the next one that has a cleaner look. The beds and service in the first one could be much better, but that’s not what the “meh” aesthetic is telling tourists.

So yes, it’s tempting to think that an existing website is “fine”. Serviceable is enough for me. But you could be losing clients to competing firms in your area, even if they’re not as good as your practice.

And it’s not all about looks either, it’s function too. Your site needs to keep pace with a quickly changing digital landscape or you’ll get left behind. So, let’s take a look at what a new or updated website can do for your firm.

1. User Experience and Accessibility

An older website might seem to work, but user expectations and behaviors evolve over time. Modern websites are designed with user experience (UX) at the forefront so visitors can easily navigate and find information.

This includes mobile responsiveness, and if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re risking losing quite a few potential clients. Additionally, accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities, is not just a legal requirement but also shows a commitment to client inclusivity.

2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEO) helps clients find you first online. Search engines continually update their algorithms, and an outdated website might not be optimized for the latest SEO best practices. Factors like site speed, mobile optimization, and content quality all play a role in how well your site ranks on search engines. A modern website built with SEO in mind can improve your visibility, driving more organic traffic and, ultimately, more clients.

3. Security Concerns

Cybersecurity is a significant concern for any business, and law firms are no exception. Older websites may not have the latest security features, making them vulnerable to cyber-attacks. A new website can incorporate advanced security measures, such as SSL certificates, secure coding practices, and regular updates to protect sensitive client information and maintain your firm’s reputation.

4. Reflect Your Brand’s Evolution

Your website should reflect your current brand identity, values, and services. An outdated site can send the wrong message to potential clients, suggesting that your firm is not keeping up with the times. A modern, well-designed website demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing the best possible service.

5. Integration with Modern Tools and Technologies

Today’s websites do more than just provide information; they integrate with various tools and technologies that enhance functionality. Whether it’s client portals, live chat support, or automated scheduling systems, a new website can incorporate these features to improve client engagement and streamline your operations.

6. A Competitive Advantage

Your website can be a powerful differentiator. Prospective clients are likely to compare multiple law firms before making a decision. A modern, professional website can set your firm apart from competitors who have not invested in their online presence. It shows that your firm is proactive, innovative, and client-focused.
